Question

Is Mexico safe?Is Mexico safe?

Answer

The U.S. State Department rates Mexico by state, not as a whole. Quintana Roo—home to Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel—is rated Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution, the same level as many popular destinations like Spain, France, Italy, the Bahamas, Costa Rica, and the UK. The Hotel Zone has dedicated Tourist Police and Navy presence, plus gated resort security and 24/7 surveillance. These teams focus solely on keeping tourist areas safe. For more info, visit travel.state.gov. There is also more safety information listed on the "Resort Information" tab.
