We have not been dating since high school. We have not been dating since college. We met as adults in our 30s at a bar in Brooklyn thanks (in part) to the internet and our love of dogs and Built to Spill – the foundation of any lasting relationship. After 9 months of commuting between north and south Brooklyn (might as well have been different hemispheres), it was time to either break up or move in together. We decided on the latter. So far, it seems like it was a good decision. Since then we have traveled to some cool places, changed jobs a few times (who’s counting?), watched a lot of movies (uhh... films), read many (but not enough) books, pet a lot of cute dogs (big and small), picked up more than our weight in dog poop (we used bags), listened to a lot of Alex Cameron records (there are only 2), and have been through some hard times and a lot of good times too– like getting engaged... in Paris. Very romantic.
So, now we’re getting married because XaviBaby needs a stable home. And we’re doing it in Greenpoint because Denis used to live there and Xavi was pretty into it. It’s also a place we love, in a city we love. While we haven’t been together forever and neither of us grew up in Brooklyn, we have both called New York City home for more than 10 years. We’ve built our lives here, separately, and now together and want our wedding to be an event where these lives converge – where the people we love from all of the different phases and places, schools and scenes – can come together to support us as we move into this next, important, scary (ok, not too scary), and amazing stage of our lives. Thanks for being our friends and family (however obligatory) and for helping us become the people we are now and the people we are to become, as individuals and as a couple (and for dealing with all the parentheticals). We love you.
