We met when Mike was working at the YMCA and I was working out there regularly. We formed an unlikely friendship, spending hours chatting. I'd stay after my workout and "help" him clean up so we could keep talking. Despite the fact that we truly were just friends for that first year, feelings began to develop in the second year, and after a looooong pursuit on his part, I agreed to give it a shot! 2.5 years later, here we are!
We went to the beach to take some pictures before (what I thought was) my sister's boyfriend's birthday dinner. They'd all played their parts well during the day, with Steve even doing some grumbling about having to go take the beach pictures in the first place. After I took some pictures of Kandace and Steve, Kandace took some of us. Mike asked if I wanted to go look and see if the pictures were okay. Apparently I was supposed to walk over to look, and then when I turned around, he'd be down on one knee. I threw a wrench in that by saying that I was sure the pictures were fine, so he had to improvise, said "Okay, I guess we'll just do this now then" while he got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. After he asked me, and I said yes, he pulled out a ring for Harper and asked her if he could marry her mommy. She said no! But later on, she said she had been nervous and couldn't hear him that well, and wanted to change her mind. Phew!
