Squaw Valley is the home of the 1960 Winter Olympics and is Dena and Ned's favorite ski area. There is a nearby golf course and you can take the Aerial Tram up 2,000 feet to take in the views. There is food and a pool at the top.
Emerald Bay is a gorgeous bay on the southwest side of Lake Tahoe. It features gorgeous green-blue waters and a single island in the middle. The road is a little precarious though, so maybe not a great option for the weak-kneed. If you are interested in hiking, check out Maggie's Peak for an aerial view of Emerald Bay. If you don't want to hike you can still get an amazing view from the road.
THIS OPTION REQUIRES SOME DRIVING. South Lake Tahoe is home to Heavenly Ski Resort, a number of casinos, shops, and restaurants. You can also take the Heavenly gondola up for a small fee to get some of the best aerial views of Lake Tahoe available.
Mountain bikers have a couple hundred miles of world class trails to choose from in the Lake Tahoe area. There are plenty of places to rent bikes, but the closest to Gar Woods and Carnelian Bay is Tahoe Adventure Company. There are many places to hike near Lake Tahoe.
Reno is a 45 minute drive from Carnelian Bay, where our wedding venue is located. As you may know, Reno has a vibrant night scene and dozens of casinos.

Drive up to Donner Lake in Truckee, California and drive up to Donner Pass and witness the amazing vista of Donner Lake surrounded by mountains. Great photo opportunities.
