Our Story

The Wedding Website of Deirdre Murdy and Tyler Szach
Deirdre grew up in New York, skiing in the winter and playing on the beach in the summer. She loved animals, especially whales and dolphins. She dreamed of being a marine biologist or a Shamu trainer. She cried when a restaurant had taxidermy on the wall, and wrote notes on the napkin that it was mean to kill animals. Tyler grew up in Arizona, snowboarding in the winter from his family's cabin, where his dad's prize buck hung over the fireplace. He loved hunting with his dad and brother. A true desert child, he was terrified of the ocean and its creatures.

How they met

...

The unlikely pair's paths first crossed one fateful night in Park City. Kinsey, one of Deirdre's best friends in town, invited Deirdre out to the Cabin because her friends from Aspen were visiting. Within moments of walking in, Tyler ordered four bear fights (an Aspen specialty of a Jaeger bomb followed by a car bomb). Deirdre told Kinsey her friends were savages.

How it started

...

Natalie, a mutual friend of Tyler and Deirdre's, got married in the Uinta Mountains in Utah. The friends all planned to camp in the mountains the weekend of the wedding. Tyler flew to Utah prepared for camping with a skillet for making breakfast and a hammock. Unfortunately he did not check the weather. There was a storm coming that night, and his hammock offered little protection from the rain. Deirdre was kind enough to share her tent with Tyler, and I guess you could say the rest is history. After spending a lovely weekend together, Tyler flew back to Tucson, but the two kept in touch. That fall, Deirdre bought a house and then broke her collarbone. Tyler kindly offered to come to Utah and help with the house projects Deirdre was struggling to accomplish with one arm. That trip led to more trips between Arizona and Utah, with the two finding opportunities to visit each other. In March of 2020, when the world shut down, Deirdre's job went fully remote. The pair took advantage of the change to spend more time together, and went to Tyler's parents' cabin in Pinetop to quarantine. They went on backpacking trips and ski trips, hung with Tyler's family in the desert, and with Deirdre's family at the beach. Tyler eventually moved to Utah so they could spend even more time together, and they continued traveling and adventuring together.

The engagement

...

Last fall, Deirdre was meeting Tyler in Tucson to spend Thanksgiving with his family. When she got to the airport, they were offering a voucher for people willing to get on a flight the next morning. Deirdre called Tyler to say she was thinking of taking the voucher, but was met with a very stern "Do not take the voucher, you need to get on the plane." She wondered why Tyler was so grumpy all of a sudden. When she arrived in Tucson around midnight that night, Tyler told her he had planned a surprise the next day, and she was going to have to wake up really early. Like leave the house at 5AM early. She was not excited. The morning came, and the surprise turned out to be a hot air balloon ride over Tucson. While they were floating over the mountains and taking in the gorgeous view, Tyler got down on one knee and asked Deirdre to marry him. She immediately said yes. Hot air balloons are similar to sailboats, and need wind to go anywhere. The day they went was extremely calm, and the balloon couldn't get to where it needed to go. Tyler and Deirdre's balloon ended up having to land in the middle of a retirement community, which caused quite a stir. That wasn't it for the surprises of the day. After showing the ring to all the old ladies walking their dogs, they went back to Tyler's parents house, where Deirdre's family was waiting to celebrate with them. Now, they are so excited to celebrate with all of you!
