Our favorite thing to do in Lucca is rent bikes or stroll along the wide, tree-lined path atop the 16th-century walls for great city views. It is an amazing way to see the city! A must-do.
The most spectacular views. Torre Guinigi is the only surviving tower-house in Lucca. Climb the 45-metre-high tower (230 steps) for an incredible panoramic view of the medieval townhouses and rural landscape outside the city. The climb takes about 10 minutes. Another MUST !
Lucca is full of little, historic churches spread across the city. Some of the famous ones are Romanesque Duomo di San Martino (home to the Volto Santo), San Frediano, and San Michele in Foro.
17th-century Lucchese mansion residence and Italian-style baroque gardens. Named after a former owner, an Austrian brewer. Walk the gardens, tour the gorgeous inside and beer cellar!
The distinctive oval-shaped public square located in the historic center of Lucca. Built upon the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheater. Today, it serves as a lively hub with cafes, restaurants, farmers market and shops. Fantastic people watching with some wine and bites!
The shopping in Lucca is truly outstanding. Everything from Italian-owned local boutiques to high-end designers.
Beyond all of the restaurants and shops inside the walls, there are quite a few wineries outside of the walled city!
