Allison prefers Smith Tower to some of the other observatories downtown. Tickets to the Smith Tower observatory include an interactive history tour, and the a 35th floor speakeasy with light bites and cocktails. The deck offers 360 degree views including the Seattle Waterfront, and on a clear day, the Olympics and Mt. Rainier.
Following the Great Fire in 1889, Pioneer Square and a portion of Seattle's downtown was built right on top of the ruins. Guides take groups through the Seattle Underground, providing historical context and entertainment. BOOK TICKETS EARLY! The tours are very popular, especially the seasonal haunted tours. Please note that daytime tours are more family friendly than evening tours. Alli had a particular colorful evening tour guide who seemingly was paid by the number of times he said "whores!"
This is Allison's favorite Seattle museum. The exhibits trace Seattle's history from the Salish peoples to Starbucks and Amazon and features a particularly amusing show about the Seattle Fire of 1889. Outside, you can enjoy the vintage boats docked at South Lake Union and the Museum of Wooden Boats.
Kyle and Alli took her parents on the tour of Elliott Bay and the Ballard Locks when they visited in fall 2023. The guides identify points of interest along Seattle's waterfront and takes the boat through the locks separating the Bay from Lake Union. Please note that the boarding and disembarkation are not at the same location.
