Things To Do

Bull City Fair Trade

Bull City Fair Trade

811 9th Street, Durham, NC 27705
, (919) 286-2457

This is one of our favorite stores in Durham, and where we are registered. (It's formerly known as One World Market.) They are a local, non-profit, fair trade store in the heart of Durham and they have the most beautiful items that help people across the world by giving them a living wage and a sustainable job.

Goorsha

Goorsha

910 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27701
, (919) 588-4660

We LOVE this place. If you're into Ethiopian food--or maybe just curious about it--you should definitely check out Goorsha. It has a fun atmosphere and amazing food that is vegetarian- and vegan-friendly.

Cocoa Cinnamon

Cocoa Cinnamon

2013 Chapel Hill Road, Durham, NC 27707

Cocoa Cinammon is a Durham staple! Their coffee is amazing. We go there regularly and always make sure to swing by with friends and family who are in town. There are three locations in Durham. The one listed here always has lively Spanish music playing and serves CHURROS. Make sure to stop by before leaving town!

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Sarah P. Duke Gardens

420 Anderson Street, Durham, NC 27708
, (919) 684-3698

These gardens are so beautiful and peaceful! If you have a few hours to kill during your time in Durham, definitely check them out. The gardens are adjacent to Duke's West Campus, which is where Duke Chapel is. This is just a short walk (less than ten minutes from the gardens) if you're into that sort of thing. Note that the gardens are free admission, but you do have to pay to park.

Foster's Market

Foster's Market

2694 Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard, Durham, NC 27707
, (919) 489-3944

Foster's is a local delicious market and lunch spot with fresh salads and sandwiches, it's one of our favorite spots, and we can't recommend it enough!

Pizzeria Toro

Pizzeria Toro

105 East Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701
, (919) 908-6936

Pizzeria Toro is in the center of downtown Durham. Some of their pizzas are classic, some are funky. ALL are wood-fired and delicious!

Letters Bookshop

Letters Bookshop

313 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27701
, (919) 973-2573

This independent bookstore is also in the heart of downtown Durham. I (Tara) can't go in there without buying a book! But that's probably not saying a whole lot. They have lots of books written by and about folks local to Durham.

The Parlour

The Parlour

117 Market Street, Durham, NC 27701
, (919) 564-7999

By far the best ice cream in town! The Parlour is downtown, so stop by after your dinner at Pizzeria Toro or before your trip to Letters. They give out plenty of samples, but you really can't go wrong.
