Faneuil Hall is a shopping area in Boston with a lot of history and features Quincy Market, which claims to be "the largest and oldest food hall in the country." This is a good bet if you've got a group of people all looking for different dining options.
The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile-long path through Boston that passes by 16 locations significant to the history of the United States. Marked largely with red brick, it winds from Boston Common in downtown Boston through the North End to the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. If you've got any interest in history this is probably the thing for you to do.
If you've got an extra day here with the kids we recommend the aquarium, the children's museum, or the museum of science for indoor activities. The aquarium features penguins, sea lions, sharks, eels, sea turtles, and many more, several of which are housed in a giant 4 story tank that is really a sight to see.
The Museum of Science in Boston has a lot of similarities to the Museum of Science and Industry (though no coal mine!) so if that kind of thing is your jam this is probably worth checking out. The highlights being the planetarium, the omni theater, a 4D theater, and many live presentations. Don't miss the lightning show!!
Built in 1912, Fenway Park offers daily guided tours for folks who want to tour the oldest active ballpark in MLB and don't have time for a game. They have offer a 60 minute tour full of history of the venue and team as well as a 15 minute tour for folks who are trying to cram a lot into one day. We saw Paul McCartney perform a truly magical show at Fenway last year and really enjoyed getting to explore the ballpark a bit!
If you're looking for something a little closer to the hotel or something to do outdoors we've heard great things about the deCordova Sculpture Park in Lincoln. Their website has a full list of all their current sculptures which might help determine if this would be a good stop for you.
Game Underground is a little arcade in Waltham that features a bunch of Japanese rhythm games, in addition to the standard arcade games. This might be Dave's favorite place in New England. Some highlights include Pop'n Music, Jubeat, StepManiaX, and beatmaniaIIDX. It's also right next to a BonChon and Kung Fu Tea, so it's a lovely spot to spend an afternoon or evening.
Boston Calling, a large music festival coincidentally is occurring the weekend of our wedding. We don't really recommend trying to attend this, but if you're feeling really adventurous and have a burning desire to see the Foo Fighters or Alanis Morissette those are the Friday and Saturday headliners. We regret to inform you the Linda Lindas are performing during our wedding, and we weren't able to book them as our wedding band.
Not Your Average Joe's is a New England chain that we enjoy, featuring American comfort classics. They're pretty good about having gluten free options. If you're a person who eats gluten, however, don't turn down the bread and oil at the start!!
We haven't been here yet, but it sounds like a neat concept. A wide variety of food options, ping pong, pool tables, and a pour your own beer setup. Some reviews say it was a little confusing with having to order food through the app, so maybe do some research before heading here.
