There is sooo much to do at Pike Place Market. You can check out the first Starbucks, watch the throwing of the fish at the Pike Place Fish Market, grab beers at the Taproom at Pike Place, or just enjoy the unique shopping available here! Make sure you try to get to the downstairs areas, they are less crowded and have shops like Holy Cow Records, artists who paint and sell from studios, and a comic book store. The Starbucks opens early, the Market opens at 8am and the gum wall is disgusting… you’re welcome.
You’ve seen it on Frasier, you’ve come all this way… you might as well go see it in-person. It is definitely worth going up (buy a ticket ahead of time… our advice is just to do general admission!). Go during the day for stunning views of Seattle. It is also beautiful at night but you miss out on breathtaking Puget Sound and Mountain views.
The best craft cocktail bar in Seattle. It’s a little hidden, you have to go down some stairs towards the aquarium from Pike Place Market (next to a Kasala furniture store), but it’s worth the trek. They’ve been featured in GQ, Men’s Journal, and Esquire for being one of the best bars in the country.
Get the Award Winning Clam Chowder. It’s so good they give you the recipe. There are more than a few locations for Duke’s… and the chowder is great at all of them but Lake Union has pretty boats to look at while you eat. People will tell you the best chowder come from the Pike Place Chowder place by Rachel’s Ginger Beer in the Market……. Those people are wrong.
The Fremont Troll has been around since 1990 and might look familiar if you were a fan of 10 Things I Hate About You or Once Upon A Time. It is literally under a bridge and the Fremont neighborhood it hails from has great food, bars, and cafes with a fun hipster vibe.
If you’ve rented a car and have some time (it’s about 45 minutes from the wedding venue), you should check out Snoqualmie Falls. It’s beautiful and you can drive right up to the viewpoint. Also there is Salish Lodge and Spa right there! It’s a great breakfast spot but you’ll likely need reservations!
Another cool spot you’ve probably seen in movies or TV. Greys Anatomy, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Singles all had scenes there. Like many of the suggestions it’s got a great view and it’s pretty unique to see an old Gasification plant turned into something for the community!
We are in Seattle while the Salmon are moving! Check them out using the ladder (should be able to see Coho or Chinook Salmon jumping) the locks raising and lowering the boats are pretty cool too. Walking tours of the locks start at 2pm each day and last about an hour!
