It’s like living in a renaissance festival—except with food that’s actually edible and cleaner bathrooms! The second we stepped into Edinburgh’s Old Town, Annie was already scouting flats to buy. It’s a history nerd’s dream come true. Wander down the Royal Mile, take a tour of Edinburgh Castle, enjoy a pint at a cozy pub, and don’t leave without trying some haggis. Oh and don't miss the graveyard tours.
Scotland is, of course, the home of Scotch Whisky. And let me tell you, they know how to drink in this country. Check out the linked map to see what distilleries are near where you might be staying. Many have some form of distillery tour, or tasting experience which you can take advantage of. Many of these scotches can only be purchased in Scotland!
I think the number of castles per capita in this country is one to one, so in case you don't get enough castle time during our wedding, there are myriad castles and ruins scattered all over the Scottish countryside and cities which are available for visitation/tours. While some can't be entered, they can be photographed or visited from a distance. Check out the attached link to see some of the castles you can see.
Golf originated in Scotland in the middle ages! As you can imagine, there are some truly majestic golf courses in the country, several of which are close to our venue. We recommend trying to book courses well in advance, as October is the tail end of the busy tourist season. Please note that we will likely be booking a golf outing during our time at the castle (otherwise Annie's dad may accidentally RSVP "no"), so our hope is that you can experience at least one of the golf courses near Birkhill if you're interested in doing so!
