If you love golf, this is the place to go. But even if you don't care about golf, St.Andrews is a quiet town on the coast with beautiful beaches, pubs, stores and the third oldest University in the United Kingdom (1413) which is pretty to walk around.
If you are outdoorsy and want to see the best of Scotland, go to The Highlands! Fair warning (and this goes for all of Scotland, not just The Highlands) - just because it's summer doesn't mean it'll be warm! It can get pretty chilly if you're climbing peaks or swimming in lochs. You will have to rent a car to do this, but it is well worth it, especially since it's on the doorstep of Aberdeen.
On the 19th of July, the Tall Ships will be coming to Aberdeen (https://www.tallshipsaberdeen.com/) which means the city will be quite busy the week of our wedding. If you want to catch Europe's largest free event, then you might want to stick around to see this! More things to do: - Newburgh Beach, home to a large colony of Grey & Harbour Seals. Also near Balmedie Beach. - Golfing: there are plenty of places to golf in Aberdeen, and for the Americans, you can even golf at President Donald Trump's very own golf course for £495 - bargain!
Stonehaven is a small fishing village just outside of Aberdeen. It's a quick 25-minute drive or alternatively, you can take a train from Aberdeen to Stonehaven which will drop you off roughly 20 minutes walk from the beach. In Stonehaven there is a lot to do: - Dunnotar Castle (the best castle in the Northeast!) https://www.dunnottarcastle.co.uk/ - The walk from Stonehaven to Dunnotar Castle is around 30 minutes. You'll pass the Stonehaven War Memorial and also walk along the cliffs of the North Sea on the way to the castle - the scenery is spectacular but it’s a bit of a hike so be prepared! - Have a well-earned Fish n' Chips at The Bay, ranked one of the top chippys in the United Kingdom and "ranked as one of the world's top food experiences by the Lonely Planet Guide".
