Once Upon a Time

Sloane and Daniel's story began at High Point University during their senior year of college. They shared a class, but didn't know each other...yet. Daniel decided to enlist the help of one of Sloane's good friends to finagle his way into a group project in order to “get to know each other" under the guise of studying. Once a part of the group, he slyly began texting her for “help”. Soon, texts turned into visits to the "Orange House" where Sloane lived with her friends. Conveniently, a friend of Sloane's was dating a baseball player who was a teammate of Daniel's, making it more natural for him to and stop by and join when they went out. Sloane, not giving it much thought, enjoyed making a new friend and wasn't looking for a boyfriend. Daniel on the other hand, had a different idea. According to him, it was "love at first sight" and he knew Sloane was "the one" the day she strolled into that class. Sloane still finds this somewhat amusing because the class was at 7:50 AM, and that morning she had rolled out of bed and gone to class without much primping (think tee shirt, sweatpants, and makeup free). What did Sloane notice about Daniel? The fact that he always had so much food -- always coming to class with a backpack stuffed with snacks! How much food does a person need in 45 minutes? This was interesting to Sloane which made her curious about this guy and why was he always so hungry? Honestly, this still remains the case for Sloane and just about anyone who knows Daniel! After graduation in 2019, life pulled them in different directions. Daniel was drafted by the Chicago White Sox, a dream opportunity that meant baseball would take up all of his time. Sloane moved to DC with her friends to begin her new job, and next chapter of life. Happily, even with the distance between them, and then Covid, they never stopped talking. Phone calls lasting until 3:00 AM, sweet good morning texts and Daniel's kindness and persistence were so great, but Sloane wasn’t ready to take the leap. It seemed the relationship could never work given where they were in life. Finally, with a lot of thought (and her parents and brother helping her see the incredible man she had standing right in front of her), she made up her mind to take the risk. Pretending their long distance love would be “easy”, they began dating. For two and a half years, bridging the distance, learning the true meaning of trust, enjoying every visit, endless phone calls, laughter and tears, and every off-season moment they were able to spend together, their relationship grew. In 2022 they decided to live together and moved to Raleigh, NC. This was a big step considering they had never spent more than a week together at one time, but they felt confident . A year flew by, and brought another move to Charlotte, NC, where Daniel would be coaching. Charlotte was the first city Daniel and Sloane ever vacationed in together and the place they officially became “boyfriend and girlfriend”, so it held a very special place in their hearts. Then, in April 2024, in Charleston, SC, Daniel asked Sloane to marry him at sunset on the water in front of the Pineapple Fountain. They returned home as fiancés and their families and friends were all thrilled! When the 2024 baseball season ended, they celebrated their engagement with their first real vacation - a 3 week tour of Europe. Many beautiful memories were created exploring incredible places, eating amazing food, and even having the opportunity to meet with their wedding planner in Rome! Now, here they are, ready to begin the biggest adventure of all...getting married! Through all the years, distance, and ups and downs life has thrown our way, we’ve always brought out the best in each other. Together, we’ve laughed, explored, and built a love story we can’t wait to continue and share with all of you as you join us on our special day. We look forward to hopefully seeing you at our wedding and celebrating our love together.
