Exploring the Philippines

We've listed some suggestions here for things to do and see if it's your first time in the Philippines. If enough of you are interested in doing something, Dan and I can arrange a group outing and take care of the logistics.
Intramuros

Intramuros

Manila, NCR 1002, Philippines

Intramuros was the seat of religious and political power when the Spanish empire ruled the Philippines. Bombings during World War II destroyed all structures but one; San Agustin Church was damaged but still standing. Today, you can visit Intramuros to see Spanish-era architecture and learn about its history.

Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum

Makati Avenue, Greenbelt Park, Makati, NCR, Philippines

I took Dan here during his first trip to Manila with me. Whether you're a native or a first time visitor to the Philippines, everyone can appreciate the beauty and knowledge within the Ayala Museum. The Diorama Experience of Philippine History is my personal favorite of their permanent exhibits.

Greenfield Weekend Market

Greenfield Weekend Market

Greenfield District Central Park, Mayflower St., Mandaluyong, NCR, Philippines

Open on the weekends starting at 4 pm, browse stalls at the Greenfield Weekend Market for unique goods and good food!

Shangri-La Plaza

Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong, NCR 1552, Philippines

Shangri-La Plaza is right beside EDSA Shangri-La (where you'll be staying), merely a few minutes' walk from your hotel. Not only does this mall have a grocery store, drugstore, and lots of shopping, there are many excellent places to eat: Corazon (Filipino-Spanish food): Dan and I always eat here whenever we're in Manila. Bo's Coffee Primo: a local coffee chain, and an excellent alternative to Starbucks (which is also available in this mall) Mary Grace Cafe: they serve excellent local baked goods. Their Cheese Rolls are our family favorite! Max's: known for their fried chicken, Max's has been around since 1945 and continues to be a Filipino family favorite.
