Dan and I talked about doing a Germany & Denmark trip for years as a way to show each other the countries we loved while studying abroad in college. We finally made it happen in the fall of 2018. Dan would plan the first half of the trip in Germany and Austria, while I took care of the second half in Denmark. After an amazing first week, we took the train from Hamburg to Copenhagen. To recover from our long and slightly uncomfortable train ride, I decided we should eat and drink by one of Copenhagen’s man-made lakes. We sat on a bench overlooking Sankt Jorgens Sø and the Tycho Brahe planetarium, Dan discovered the joys of a Danish hotdog and we drank some beers. Next thing I know, Dan’s talking about taking journeys and pulling out a beautiful blue box from his pocket. And so we were engaged.
