Flight

Fly to Gunnison (GUC) - take shuttle to CB

Flying into Gunnison might not be the cheapest option, but it's the closest. There are rental car options if you would like to hire a car for your time in Colorado, or there is a shuttle (Apline Express) that will take you to your destination in Crested Butte. When in Crested Butte there is a free town bus that runs from the mountain to town every 20 minutes. If you plan to hang around CB then it's a great way to get around, if you want to do excursions or day trips - a rental car might be the way to go.

Fly to Montrose (MTJ) - take shuttle to CB

Flying into Montrose is the next closest option, and often times a bit cheaper. You can again rent a car or hire Alpine Express to bring you to Crested Butte. See website for more details on flights.

Fly to Denver (DEN) - Drive to CB (approx 5 hours)

Denver International Airport is the closest major airport to Crested Butte. In the summer most flights will be directed through Denver with smaller planes taking you to the regional airports. You can hire a rental car and drive from Denver. The drive will be beautiful and approximately 5 hours. Fly to Colorado Springs (COS) - Drive to CB (approx 4 hours)

For those flying in from Chicago - Frontier has really cheap flights into Denver and Colorado Springs. From "the Springs" it's only a 3.5-4 hour drive time and still beautiful the whole way in. We suggest a stop in the old town of Salida for lunch near the river!

Alpine Express

This is not a train - it's basically a black limo bus. It's a nice way to get from Gunnison or Montrose airport into Crested Butte.

The Mountain Express - Crested Butte (free) shuttle

During the summer months, The Mountain Express, runs on a 20 minute schedule taking you from Mount Crested Butte to the Town of Crested Butte. The towns are 2 miles away from each other and have separate mayors, fire dept, police, etc. It's very serious. But it's all one big happy family at the end of the day and you should check out both! You can do it easily and free when you take the old painted school buses. See website to find out where they stop (ps it's really hard to miss there are no stoplights in this town).

There are also many rentals in town if you are looking to accommodate more people and have a house . Things to note - make sure you are close to a bus line for ease of transportation.
