There are so many crazy beautiful hikes in the surrounding Crested Butte area it's hard to pick a favorite! If you're staying at the base of the mountain you can head right out your back door and start at one of the trail heads there. You can also buy a lift ticket to get you up to the top of Silver Queen and from there hike to the Summit of Mt Crested Butte (12,126 ft)! If you are adventurous and have a car, there are TONS of options in the surrounding area. See website for more options and what looks like it best suits your wants and needs!
Elk Avenue has all sorts of shops! Art galleries. Gear shops for hiking, biking, fishing, skiing, etc. Clothing stores. Bookstore. Kids store! T-shirt store! Sunglasses store! OXYGEN Store (go to FAQs for more info on altitude!) And more!
Our favorite coffee in town is at the end of Elk Avenue in The Guild cafe. It's called First Ascent and we just love the vibe here if you want to sit and drink your coffee and get a nibble too. If you're on the go (or on the mountain), Camp 4 Coffee will be your best bet! Still a good cup of Joe (by American standards ;)) and two locations. Larger location at Mountaineer Square on the mountain and then a very small stand alone shop that is worth checking out to see how cute it is just off Elk Avenue (did we mention Elk Ave is the main drag?)
Gunnison County's most trusted rafting provider, Three Rivers, will take you through some fun rapids to get the adrenaline pumping while enjoying nature's beauty surrounding you. Fun for everyone! There is a bus that runs from Crested Butte to Gunnison that (I think*) will drop you at the cross street here. Let me check to confirm, otherwise, this would be a fun activity for those with rental car.
Did we mention that Crested Butte is the Wildflower Capital of Colorado and our wedding just so happens to fall during the Wildflower festival? Check out their website closer to the date of the wedding to see what kind of events they will be holding.
At the base of the mountain there is no shortage of things to do in the summer. There is a zipline course, a zero gravity bag jump (jump from 32 or 24 foot platform onto giant 50x50 foot air inflated bag), rock climbing wall, bungee jumping trampoline, and miniature golf (putt putt) course. Check out the website for more details and age/weight restrictions.
