Eastern Market is one of the oldest farmers' markets in the United States (dating back to the 1840's!). It's open year-round every Saturday. There's fresh produce, food vendors, food trucks and many restaurants nearby. It's a must-do when we have visitors in town! PS - "Eastern Market" is the name of a neighborhood, the farmer's market, and one of our favorite breweries. If you are trying to get to the farmers market, "Shed 3" is a great place to start.
This 1.65 mile greenway connects Eastern Market to the riverfront. This is a great place for a walk, run or bike. Along the way, check out the Dequindre Cut Freight Yard, a family-friendly wine and beer garden with outdoor games.

Belle Isle is a 985-acre island park with views of Detroit to the North and Canada to the south. You can bike, run, walk, swim and explore different attractions, like the Conservatory and the Aquarium. For our guests coming from St. Louis, this is similar to Forest Park. There is a small entry fee per vehicle ($11 for out-of-state, $7 for in-state for a day pass), but most of the attractions are free to enter. PS - The only food options on Belle Isle are typically food trucks. We recommend bringing food/beverage with you if you'll want them.
Recently named the No. 1 "Top Public Square" in the U.S. by USA Today, a portion of the park transforms each summer into The Beach - a family-friendly man-made beach with a bar.
The DIA's collection is among the top six in the United States.
Yes, you can easily visit Canada during your stay in Detroit! Just remember to bring your passport. We've crossed the boarder before for dinner, etc., and while it's not the most exciting town, it's always fun to check out a new country! PS - there is a toll both ways, credit cards accepted!
If you feel like making a full vacation out of our wedding, be sure to stop on Michigan's West side. There are ton of small beach towns that are perfect for a quick little getaway! We loved our trip to the Warren Sand Dunes. Lake Michigan is about 2-3 hours West of Detroit. PS - Campgrounds and accommodations tend to book up quickly for summer, so if you are interested in camping, we recommend booking sooner rather than later!
