Getting Around Anchorage

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, with a population of 300,000. Uber and Lyft are easy options to get around town, with it taking 20-30 minutes to get almost anywhere in the city. If you have the opportunity, we HIGHLY recommend renting a car to drive at least 20 minutes out of town (in either direction!) to get a feel for the real beauty of Alaska. If you REALLY want your own car, driving from the Lower 48 takes you on a 2,500+ mile road trip through Canada and Interior Alaska. About 10 days and thorough planning are recommended.
