Yes! You will need a valid passport to travel to Costa Rica, meaning your passport must remain valid for the entire duration of your stay. To avoid any issues, it's always a good idea to have at least 6 months of validity remaining on your passport before traveling. American citizens staying in Costa Rica for less than 90 days do not need a visa.
We kindly request that you RSVP for the rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony/reception on the RSVP tab of this website by April 1, 2025, and reserve your hotel by May 1, 2025. If you’re unsure about attending other events (such as the beach and/or boat day), feel free to RSVP 'no' for now—you can always update your response later. All final RSVPs for every event must be submitted by September 1, 2025. Your prompt responses and bookings mean so much to us, and we truly appreciate your effort in helping us plan for this special celebration!
In mid-November, Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, transitions from the rainy season to the dry season. Daytime temperatures average 81°F, with nighttime lows near 71°F. Rainfall decreases significantly, with occasional early showers and humidity remains around 73%. It will be warm and tropical, but since it’s a rainforest near the end of the rainy season, packing a poncho and/or umbrella is a smart choice!
Costa Rica uses the same electrical system as the United States so you shouldn't need an adapter or converter for your electronics!
The official currency is the Costa Rican colón (CRC), but U.S. dollars (USD) are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas, hotels, and restaurants. Small bills are more practical, as larger denominations may not always be accepted. Most places will also accept credit or debit cards, and using a CC without foreign transaction fees is the way to go if you ask me! Exchange rates may vary, but it is usually ~₡500 CRC for every $1 USD.
Yes, the water in Costa Rica is usually safe to drink, especially in cities and tourist spots. The country has a reliable water treatment system, and tap water meets high safety standards (this goes for ice as well). If you’re ever unsure, simply opt for bottled or filtered water to stay on the safe side.
Not for American citizens!
Tipping in Costa Rica is not required, but it is appreciated for good service. Most restaurants automatically include a 10% service charge in the bill, which acts as a tip. If you feel the service was exceptional, it’s common to leave an additional tip of 5-10%, though this is entirely optional!
In Costa Rica, "Pura Vida" translates to "pure life," but its meaning goes far beyond the words. It’s a way of life that reflects living peacefully and simply, with a deep appreciation for nature, family, and friends. It embodies a sense of real living—one rooted in happiness, well-being, and contentment with life’s simple joys. The phrase is commonly used as a greeting, a farewell, or to express that everything is going well, often conveying positivity and gratitude. More than just a saying, "Pura Vida" represents a philosophy of embracing the present moment and finding satisfaction in a relaxed, harmonious existence. It perfectly captures the warm and laid-back spirit that Costa Rica is known for, and hopefully, the spirit of our wedding and future life together!
No, children cannot attend the wedding. While we encourage you to bring your little ones and enjoy this beautiful destination as a family, we kindly ask that the wedding day itself remain a child-free event. We ask that you arrange childcare during this time so everyone can fully relax and celebrate together. Haley is available to help book babysitters if necessary. Thank you for helping us make this day unforgettable!
At this time, all other events are child-friendly, and we encourage you to bring them along. The only possible exception is the rehearsal dinner, which cannot be confirmed until we finalize RSVPs. We’ll do our best to make it a family-inclusive event, as we understand arranging childcare for two nights during your trip might be challenging.
While you are more than welcome to bring a guest to Costa Rica—it’s your vacation, after all—please note that the wedding day and rehearsal dinner will be invite-only. Only those specifically named on the invitation will be able to attend these events. We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation in honoring this request.
Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José, Costa Rica. Several major airlines offer daily flights, though many may include a layover. Upon arrival, you can either arrange ground transportation to Manuel Antonio (about a 3-hour drive) or take a short flight to Quepos, followed by a taxi to the resort. If enough people want to shuttle and are on the same flights, we may be able to book group shuttles from SJO to the hotel.
Yes, all guests are required to stay at the Parador Nature Resort and Spa from November 13–16, 2025, at a minimum (with the exception of a small group staying at a nearby villa). This is a requirement for attending the wedding events. The Parador is one of the top-rated hotels in the area, offering excellent amenities, restaurants, and pools for a comfortable stay and we hope you love it!
Absolutely! Playa Biesanz is just a 7-minute walk from the hotel, though the path can be a bit rugged. For those who prefer not to walk, the hotel offers a shuttle service to and from the beach, running four times each morning and afternoon.
Formal Tropical – Think lightweight suits or dress pants with button-down shirts and dress shoes or loafers for men (please no shorts or open-toed shoes for men), and breathable midi or maxi dresses for women. We kindly ask our guests to embrace the bright, bold, solid colors of the tropics and avoid wearing black, white, or patterns.
To book your stay, you must either call 506-2777-1415 (the preferred method) or email reservationsupervisor@hotelparador.com (bookings cannot be made through the website or any third-party companies.). Be sure to mention that you are a guest of the Haley Hanson wedding for the discount and to be included on the guest list! 50% of the total cost will be due at the time of booking, and the remaining 50% will be charged at check-in.
We encourage everyone to document the day with their phones and would love for you to share your photos and videos with us afterward! However, we kindly ask that the ceremony itself remain unplugged. This means putting away your devices so our professional photographer and videographer, who we’ve hired to capture these special moments, can do their job without distraction. Thank you for helping us create a beautiful and memorable experience!
On the wedding day itself, we’ll have a very limited number of speeches to keep the evening focused on fun and dancing. Unless you are one of the few we’ve specifically asked to speak, we kindly request that you hold off sharing your remarks. With that said, we’d love to give everyone the opportunity to share a few words during the rehearsal dinner! These will be short, impromptu toasts rather than formal speeches, making it the perfect time to share your thoughts or stories.
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, is generally safe for tourists and a popular destination known for its stunning beaches, rainforests, and abundant wildlife. While the area is famous for its animals, like mischievous monkeys, they may try to snatch food or personal items if left outside. The region is well-patrolled and offers plenty of accommodations and activities, but it’s important to stay vigilant with your belongings, especially when left in an unattended car, as theft can happen. Be mindful of your surroundings, particularly in busy areas, and take care on slippery paths due to the frequent rain. If you're driving, make sure to use reputable services, as road conditions can vary.
