We reccomend this trail or the Drinking Horse trail for a short hike only 15 minutes from Bozeman that has a great view of the area. Our first date was a sunset hike on Drinking Horse.
A nice park in downtown Bozeman to go for a walk.
If you are looking for some more difficult hikes, but within 1.5 hours driving distance of Bozeman here are a few we recommend! Please make sure to do your research before a hike!!! Bring enough water, food, bear spray if needed and wear proper attire. Big Sky area: Lava Lake, Garnet mountain fire outlook and Storm Castle. Paradise Valley: Pine Creek Lake, Livingston Peak, and Passage Falls Bridgers: Sacajawea Peak and Bridger Bowl (Start at the lodge and make your way up to the ridge) Gallatin Range: Heather/Emerald Lake and Hyalite Lake (Hyalite Peak if you feel like a challenge and want awesome views)
Our favorite resturaunt in the area! Pakeezah in Bozeman is under the same ownership and menu and is just as good!
This is a world class musuem all about enormous lizards that lived long ago. That's cool. Everyone should go here.
Great breakfast, enormous portions, strong coffee and cheap (resonably priced). What else could you want in the morning? Our favorite breakfast spot but be sure to get there early!
Mountains Walking is a nice little brewery in Bozeman with a good selection of food including wood fire pizza!
A good fried chicken sandwhich and some craft beer is always good. Also near the airport.
We recommend a trip to yellowstone to see Old Faithful, the Prismatic Pool, or the Norris Geyser Basin if you can spend a day or two doing so! It's an awesome area of our country that truly is unlike anywhere else and both the north and west entrances are only an hour and a half away from bozeman. A fair warning though that most facalities inside the park will be closed this time of year. See the NPS website for more info.
This is our top recommendation, but is very far away, being a five hour drive from bozeman. We would recommend a multi-day trip if you go. Glacier is absolutely beautiful in ealy October and is usually mild weather, but snow is a real possibilty and seasonal closures will occur once snow starts to fall. We went to Glacier this past fall and it was a sunny, 60 degree day on our first day and the second day was wet, cold and snowy (but very pretty). We highly recommend this for avid hikers as there won't be much to do other than hiking this time of year. The top rated hikes in Glacier are top rated for reason, and we would recommend them. These hikes are usually 6 to 12 miles long. Be sure to bring bear spray if you choose to go to Glacier!
