How We Met

November 9, 2013. The ‘Canes had lost their homecoming game in the South Florida rain. The stadium emptied out early, which had the silver lining of giving us a jumpstart on the rest of our Saturday night. Everything works out. A dear mutual friend of ours was hosting a small party after the game. Alex knew him from his floor freshman year; Constance met him doing community service work on spring break. Constance was still getting ready, but she went to answer the door. That’s when we saw each other for the first time. Introductions were made. “Constance, that’s a pretty name.” And the first words were said. Everything works out. Alex kept looking Constance’s way. Constance kept returning Alex’s looks. He chose her as a partner in the group drinking game (it was college, after all). She was flattered. Eventually, there was a longer conversation. “What are you studying?” “Nursing, what about you?” “Oh, I’m pre-med studying neuroscience!” “Well… I can be your nurse!” But the night almost ended without numbers being exchanged. Thankfully, Constance’s best friend and future man of honor, Jesse, also happened to be there and helped nudge the connection along. Everything works out. A first date for Mexican food followed…with a rocky start. After we each thought we were stood up—two entrances to the restaurant on campus meant we were waiting in different places—we finally found each other. The night ended with a long walk and talk around campus. We laughed and connected on several things, including how we both recently decided Greek life was not for us. It all ended with a first kiss by the library. Date two at the campus art museum confirmed the feelings from date one, and the rest was history. Everything works out. The calendar kept flipping. Our love & connection kept growing. Twelve years. One cat (we love you so much, Tara!). Three degrees. Two separate moves to Manhattan. 2.5 apartments. Five US Opens. Hundreds of subway rides. A pandemic. And then… on a crisp, fall November morning walk through Central Park, a place that’s become a special part of our everyday life, Alex got down on one knee. It was simple, heartfelt, and for Constance, the easiest yes. And now, we are beyond thrilled to be welcoming you to Miami for our wedding! Because, as it turns out, everything works out.
