There's a great beach just around the corner from the Inn where we will make sure you're comfortable with some beach chairs, towels, an umbrella and pail of bottled water (or wine if you'd prefer). If you're up for a small adventure, people really love walking across the sand bar to Little Chebeague.
There are many walking points of interest on the island, and two of our favorites are Roses Point and the sandbar to Little Chebeague. While you don’t need typical hiking gear, we encourage proper shoes, as the trails do tend to be a bit muddy and the sand soft.
The tennis club is next to the golf course and near the intersection of North and South Roads on Chebeague Island, Maine. HOURS: Weather permitting, the courts are open 7 days a week from 8 am to dusk. Courts are closed if it's raining or if they are too soft/wet from prior rain.

Portland Breakwater Light, sometimes referred to a Bug Light Park Lighthouse, stands as a living history. Its role as a marker of the end of the rocky breakwater shielding Portland Harbor began in 1855. In 1875 it was replaced, and at only 26-feet tall, it is known for its diminutive size and its elegance.
The Eastern Promenade was designed in 1905 by the Olmsted Brothers landscape firm, renowned for creating New York's Central Park and the Boston Commons. Today, the 68-acre historic landscape on the northeastern slope of Munjoy Hill (east end of Portland peninsula) offers unparalleled views of Casco Bay and Portland Harbor, as well as abundant opportunities for public recreation and enjoyment in all four seasons.
The hike from Morse Mountain to Seawall Beach is a meandering and scenic trail that leads out to one of Maine’s best beaches. It’s both a conservation area and private property but it is open to hikers who tread lightly and follow the rules. The pristine environment is what makes it one of the best hikes near Portland, Maine and you’ll love walking through pine forests, estuaries, and out to the sprawling coastline (just leave the beach umbrellas behind, they aren’t allowed at Seawall Beach). Don’t miss the turn at the last fork before the beach where you’ll see a sign for both Private Property and a trail marker. Hikers are allowed to walk up the road to get to the lookout where you’ll see a vista point with gorgeous views of the woods and waterways. Hike back down the road, turn right, and continue on the beach.
Mackworth Island is a legislated bird sanctuary and is connected to Falmouth by a causeway at the mouth of the Presumpscot River. It is the former home of James Phinney Baxter and of his son, Governor Percival Baxter, and was deeded to the State of Maine in 1943. Currently it is the site of the Baxter School for the Deaf. The island is open to visitors from dawn to dusk. The perimeter path is maintained by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands. An outhouse is also available in the parking lot. This easy trail circles Mackworth Island and offers excellent views of Casco Bay. The trail surface is packed soil, which may be slippery when wet, but the terrain is generally level, with moderate slopes not exceeding 10%. There are no steps or other major barriers to wheelchairs on the main loop. Small side trails follow steep slopes to the shore and may be inaccessible to some visitors. A new staircase with handrail has been added to a side trail on the south side of the island.
The Burnt Meadow Mountain Trail delivers with varied terrain, rock scrambles, wildflowers, and panoramic views. Hike up the Blue Trail to get a glimpse of the White Mountain Range and possibly a view of the snow-covered Mount Washington, the highest point in the Northeast. Then follow the Yellow Trail all the way back down for even better views.

Here at Scratch, we combine great food and neighborhood spirit. The environment you’ll find is personal, welcoming, and good-natured.Along with our famous bagels, you’ll find incredible bread, breakfast pastries, sweet treats, a tempting dessert case, and a full coffee bar. There’s a small but mighty savory selection of premade sandwiches and salads, and we stock whole quiches on the weekends. We also provide several market items, including cream cheese, smoked salmon, house made Georgia's Gully Granola, eggs, bacon, and locally roasted coffee beans.
When There's Nothing in the Fridge, We Go to Hot Suppa “God, it’s good to be home,” I said, chowing down. My corned beef hash was superb, not too salty, crisp, pressed on a griddle, two over-easy egg yolks seeping into it. The food there is reliably good, whether it’s catfish tacos or shrimp and grits or pulled-pork mac and cheese or Creole meatloaf. ” BON APPETIT MAGAZINE

The brothers, who grew up in a small town in central Maine called Milo, had no experience in commercial brewing or manufacturing of any kind, but they saw a hole in the market, both in types of beer, and ways to sell it, that was untapped in Maine, and spent the next two years on a crash course of personal and professional development to bring their ideas to fruition. The brewery sold its first kegs of The Substance Ale at The Thirsty Pig, where both brothers had worked during the company’s inception, on December 7th, 2013.
