Our Story

Friends to Lovers

Spencer and Cassandra (Cassie) met freshman year of college, but it wasn’t until second semester that they became true friends. Cassie lived on the fun 3rd floor of Daum, and Spencer slowly found his way to her vibrant world. They formed a friend group that bonded over shared values: working hard during the week and letting loose on the weekends. Cassie thrived in sorority life while Spencer was juggling his fraternity and multiple math classes. Despite their busy schedules, they connected over their shared ambition to succeed in their careers and their knack for bringing people together to enjoy life’s little moments. By sophomore year, something had changed. They began to cherish each other’s company, even without their usual group. They spent many evening getting Spencer's favorite meal, Pancheros, and other meals, including the infamous Old Chicago "date" where Spencer asked Cassie, "So, is this a date?" Cassie, embarrassed and the ever so stubborn one, insisted it wasn’t and insisted they split the bill. They continued to spend hours studying in the library and attending sorority and fraternity events together, all the while reassuring friends and family they were “just friends” (especially as Cassie prepared to leave for a semester abroad in Australia). Though they both knew their feelings ran deeper, they agreed a relationship before the long distance wasn’t practical. So Cassie packed her bags and left for Australia. They texted sparingly at first, until their regular FaceTimes became a lifeline. Despite the time difference, Spencer stayed committed to calling her, making Cassie realize something: he was the one. It wasn’t until she was sent home early due to COVID-19, and they were both thrust into quarantine, that they finally admitted their feelings and made it official. From there, their love only grew stronger. They traveled to Germany to introduce Spencer to her family, explored the U.S., and started their lives as adults. After graduating from the University of Iowa, they moved to Des Moines to kickstart their careers. Two years later, an exciting job offer presented the opportunity to move to Arlington, VA. Though the thought of leaving behind their families and friends was bittersweet, they knew this was their chance to begin a new chapter. Before they packed up and moved across the country, Spencer had one last surprise for Cassie. After a special dinner, he drove her to a park overlooking the Des Moines skyline and asked her to marry him. She said, “YES!” A month later, they were driving across the country, embarking on their next adventure—new jobs, a new city, and a new engagement all in the same month. Through it all, their bond has only deepened, and they can’t imagine life without each other. After 6 years of exploring the world, tackling life's adventures, and laughing at everyday moments, they can't wait to start the rest of their lives as husband and wife! They are so excited to celebrate their incredible love story, past, present, and future, with you on their wedding day!
