It was the rainiest of weeks when Zac and Colleen met on Hinge. Banter was natural from the start, and Zac impressed Colleen with his knowledge of art history (he recognized her Kandinsky tattoo poking out of her sleeve). So Zac stayed patient when Colleen texted and pushed back the time to meet (multiple times), while borrowing copious towels from her landlord to sop up the river flowing into her living room. Just a few hours late, she made it! The first date was casual—over pizza. They learned they both came from homes of chefs and lovers of art. It was the fifth date (only a few weeks later) that things really clicked. Zac brought her donuts, they explored Glenstone outside DC (highly recommend if you've never been), and came back into the city for a rooftop sushi dinner. They both left that date knowing "this is it." On their six-month anniversary date, Zac pitched the idea of moving to Philadelphia. And six months after that, they moved into the apartment they're in today. Nothing ever felt rushed; everything always felt right.
We shared early on that if we were to get married, we'd want it private and with a view. Colleen knew the perfect photographer, and Zac knew the perfect place...the hills of Massachusetts. Planning this day with our photographer Amber was magical. She helped scout locations (while living in Colorado) and encouraged us to dream up an itinerary that was truly us. That came easily, as no matter where we are in the world, our perfect day often includes: good coffee, a museum, a hike, fabulous food, people we love, and Piper*. So that's the day we planned. When we reached the top of Monument Mountain, in wedding dress and full suit, we shared handwritten vows and exchanged rings. Amber took a screenshot of the compass coordinates on her phone for Jer, Zac's brother and our solemnizer, to include as the ceremony address on our marriage certificate. Don't worry, we confirmed it counts! While we knew we wanted most of the day just us, we also wanted our immediate families there to celebrate. We found an amazing inn in the Berkshires for all of us to stay, and we were so lucky to share the most stunning sunsets and memories together. If we could relive these 72 hours over and over again, we absolutely would. Head to the "Gallery" section for the day's itinerary and accompanying photos! *We love Jo too, but she has far more fun staying home during our adventures.
