The story of how Alexis and Cole met used to vary depending on who you asked. If you asked Alexis, she would say her friend, Khari, thought Cole would be a good match for an upcoming date function and set her up with him. If you asked Cole, he would tell you that his friend, Khari, texted the group chat to see if anyone wanted to go to the date function with Alexis, and he was the first person to respond. It’s safe to say that Alexis was a little surprised to find out the truth a few months after they started dating. But regardless of how they were set up, it’s clear that they are a great match! They have since learned to laugh about this mix-up. And it’s kind of a good metaphor for their journey together. One story of how they met is romantic, the other is a bit more… real. It would be romantic to say they’ve been together since that date function at UVA in Fall 2017. The reality is, Cole needed to “find himself” after they graduated in Spring 2018, and they split up. Serendipitously, they both ended up moving to Colorado! It didn’t take long for Cole to realize he made a mistake. Alexis grounded him, supported him, and brought him a lot of joy. Alexis answered Cole’s phone call tentatively, and after a day trip to Boulder, took him back. With Cole back in her life, Alexis felt happier, calmer, and like the best version of herself. They’ve been together ever since! They made a great life in Colorado and built a wonderful community of friends. They enjoyed cross-country skiing, hikes with their dog, Nelly, game nights, seeing live music, and coming up with fun bar crawl ideas. Cole went to grad school at CU Boulder studying sustainable food systems and Alexis began her career at an early childhood nonprofit. Alexis and Cole were ready for a change after 6 years in Colorado. The end goal was to be closer to family and friends on the East Coast. But they like to be confident in their decisions (and they wanted to have a little fun!), so they took a year to travel and find the perfect place to land. It’s fitting that they chose the place they met — Charlottesville, VA. Doesn’t it always come full circle? Now, they’re falling back in love with Central Virginia and are building this next phase of their life in their new home. Alexis and Cole’s time together has been full of fun, challenge, and creativity. It’s been romantic, and it’s been real. They are so excited to be married and celebrate with all of their friends and family who have supported them along the way. They know they wouldn’t be here without them.
