The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze is one of Florence’s most iconic museums, best known as the home of David, the masterpiece by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Created in the early 1500s, the sculpture has come to symbolize courage, beauty, and human potential — a quiet reminder of strength in the face of challenge. Leading up to David, visitors walk through the hauntingly powerful “Prisoners” (or “Slaves”), Michelangelo’s unfinished statues that appear to be emerging from raw stone. Their sense of movement and becoming left a lasting impression on Darby and Colby, reflecting both resilience and growth — themes that feel deeply connected to their own journey together.
A personal favorite of Darby’s — mostly because of her lifelong Medici obsession — the Ponte Vecchio is the kind of place you end up wandering back to more than once. It’s packed with tiny jewelry shops and goldsmiths, which honestly makes it one of the best spots in Florence to browse for something special (or just stare at pretty things over the Arno). The bridge itself dates back to the 1300s, and in 1565 the Medici added the Vasari Corridor above it so they could move across the city in private — a little hidden layer of history sitting right over the crowds below.
This is the spot where Colby proposed to Darby! Phenomenal spot to watch the sunrise or sunset overlooking the Coliseum.
A perfect spot to take a breather and admire the Spanish Steps while taking in the scenery and enjoying delicious tea. This is where Darby and Colby had a lovely cup of tea a few hours before he proposed. Recommendation: "Rome in Love" - Seven Teas of Rome #2
This is where Darby and Colby stayed on their trip. It has incredible views of the Ponte Vecchio as well an amazing rooftop bar and restaurant!
