Gavin planned a perfect day and a wonderful proposal. There were surprises abound! We made plans to race on the E-Scow in the Mardi Gras Regatta in the morning. Gavin told me to pack a change of clothes for after racing "in case" we went to dinner. I noticed him packing a nice button up, questioned it, and he said "it's either this or a dirty old T-shirt." Plausible. We had a great day on the water and even made it to happy hour at the Yacht Club after racing. Apparently, everyone in the bar knew about the proposal but me. Gavin told me we had a reservation at my favorite restaurant, Jacques-Imo's. On the way out of the club, I commented about how nice the tiki bar looked with its new lighting, not for a second thinking we'd be back later to enjoy it. Gavin proposed during dinner and then told me we were heading back to the Yacht Club to meet my parents for a drink. Also plausible. Much to my surprise, a group had gathered at the nicely-lit tiki bar to congratulate us. And on top of that, Gavin's parents (who to my knowledge were in Key West, Florida) were in town to join in the festivities.
