DAY TRIP TO COZUMEL
We took a day trip to Cozumel when we visited Grand Velas in May of 2019. Cozumel is a short ferry ride away from Playa Del Carmen, which is a 20 minute cab ride from the resort. We rented a jeep with insurance for $85. We drove around the island and used about an 1/8th of a tank of gas which was $45 USD to fill up (FYI, in case you do this so you bring enough cash/credit card). The island has tons of great snorkel spots, shopping, and restaurants. You can easily make it around the island with any rental car.
