Spencer and Claire met in South American in 2010, but it wasn't until 2011 that they crossed paths again and began their journey together. Spencer was invited on the road trip of a lifetime through the Carreterra Austral, the highway that vivisects Patagonia in Chile and Argentina. Claire was working at CASA Tours at the time as a ski and culture guide and just couldn't get away from work in time to join the trip. Spencer tried without avail to get Claire on a LAN Airlines flight to meet along the way, but she finally told him she wasn't going to wait for the magic plane ticket any longer—and she was going to hang out at the beach! Low and behold, 10 days later, Spencer showed up at the beach. He caught the last bus out of Santiago for the famous Chilean independence holiday and literally found Claire on the beach. They traveled all through Chile and Argentina for the next six weeks - scaling active volcanoes, doing backcountry ski races, and even making it all the way to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world. It was definitely love at first sight, and despite the international barriers, they have been making it work for 7 years and will keep the adventure alive—chasing winter and mountains—for the rest of their lives.
