We met in an exciting summer expedition to Greenland through Puffins travel company. We were together every day for almost 3 weeks. Some days we're hiking the barren and mosquito-infested terrains where the hiking noob me would be lagging behind and he'd walk my pace no matter how slow, so I won't be alone. Some days we'd chill on the deck of the yacht, looking at the iceberg-doused horizon. And some nights we'd salute the midnight sun with red wine and beer. Towards the end of the trip, we definitely knew that we had a connection.
We met again during my yearly visit to the family in Belgium. I broke my foot and he came to visit me in Brugge. When I opened the door and hugged him, I couldn't stop smiling. Later on he told me that when we did, he knew we would always be more than friends. We went on a short trip to Meteora a few weeks later. After this trip, we decided to pursue a long distance relationship against all odds. I told him it won’t be easy, and he said “easy is boring”.
He flew to Singapore for a visit and we planned to hike up Mount Kinabalu. The day after his arrival, we agreed to get married. We didn't have an Instagram-worthy or soap-opera kind of proposal. Just two adults talking sincerely about life, and how we'd love to spend the rest of it with each other. We can't wait to celebrate this glorious moment with you all when we say "I Do!"
Due to the COVID pandemic we decided to postpone the wedding. With global travel restrictions we decided to wait, and wait, and now finally most of our family and friends outside Belgium can freely travel again! This comes 3 years late, but it'll be worth the wait. We hope to see you in Lochristi this spring!
