How We Met

Love at first Swipe

Matt and Katie connected through a dating app called The League! While Katie was still living in Connecticut, and Matt living with his Dad in New York, they matched on the app and started texting. They quickly bonded over their shared Cleveland experiences, love of Pardon My Take, and senses of humor. For weeks, Matt kept asking Katie out and she kept saying no because of her hectic commute schedule from Stamford into Manhattan. Finally, she said, "I'm moving into the city in 2 weeks, we'll go out once I'm settled". Matt sadly thought she was just blowing him off, but a few weeks later, a few days after she moved into the city, they went on their first date, and the rest was history!

The Proposal

8/2/2019

Matt and Katie had been discussing taking the next step for a while, so Katie had her suspicions in summer of 2019. Those suspicions came to a height on Friday, August 7th. Matt usually walked home to the West Village from his job at Vimeo in Chelsea, (about a half hour walk). On this particular day, Matt texted and said to plan on heading to happy hour together as soon as he got home from work. He got home, and was very sweaty (try soaked through!) from the 30 minute walk through the 85 degree August NYC heat. Katie thought, "hmm ok, if he changes clothes or showers, then I bet it's happening. But if he doesn't, then no way!" Matt didn't change his clothes, so Katie thought she was in the clear for the night. They started strolling through their neighborhood heading to a happy hour spot, and started walking through Washington Square Park. Right in front of the arch, Matt dropped his phone. Matt has a phone case that holds all his credit cards in it, so Katie started bending down to help him. While bent down, she looked over to where Matt was, and he was down on one knee! Matt said some beautiful things, they both cried, and friends and strangers took pictures to capture the moment. Matt then told Katie they were still going to happy hour the two of them to celebrate and call their parents. They kept walking towards the bar 3 Sheets Saloon, and Matt had organized all their friends and family in the area to surprise Katie! It was the loveliest, sweatiest, happiest engagement there ever was.
