Christy and James’ younger brother Ryan have been friends since they sat next to each other in the first grade. And because James was two years older than Christy, she always knew of him, but had never truly met him until the summer of 2011. The most interaction they had was during cross-country or track meets - Christy would cheer, “Go Ryan’s brother! You got this!” (Spoiler alert: He was insanely fast.) James later attended SUNY Oswego, and coincidentally two years later, Christy was headed there for her freshman year. In the summer leading up to college, Christy spent most of her days working at a boutique clothing store in town. Ryan and other friends would visit her at the store just to pass the time since there was very little foot traffic. One day, James came into the store and finally, officially, met Christy. The hangout was followed by pizza nearby, and being a masterclass in suave acts, James when leaving slowly drove over a curb (read: huge grassy median) with all four tires individually and kept going. It was so awkward and funny that Christy laughed so hard she cried. A few weeks later, Christy headed upstate for her first year at college. That August of 2011, walking on campus who should bump into each other none other than Christy and James. In complete uncharacteristic fashion of his normal shy self, he asked for her number and she gladly obliged. The following weeks were a whirlwind full of laughter and love - It was all so easy, and they found home in each other instantly. Inseparable by October, James asked Christy to be his girlfriend while walking along the shores of Lake Ontario. And as the old saying goes… the rest was history!
