We met on October 5th, 2010 at the University of Mary Washington gym. I was a Freshman and Kevin was a Junior. Kevin stopped at the water fountain in order to "unintentionally" walk by me and we started trying to talk to each other at the same time. He pointed out that I was wearing a Marshall High School shirt and that he went there as well, and I pretended not to know his name and didn't tell him until later that we were on same bus stop for 2 years in high school. This is how we met in college, despite living down the street from each other since we were toddlers!
Our first date was in August 2014, where we took a water taxi to the National Harbor and had dinner at Bobby McKey's Dueling Piano Bar.
On February 20, 2017, Kevin and I woke up at 5am to drive to the mountains and hike Old Rag (a very popular hiking mountain for Mary Washington students that I had never had the opportunity to hike during college). It is a 9 mile hike and when we got to the top, we ate lunch. Kevin became consumed with finding the perfect place to take a photo where no other hikers were. It was strange, but I followed and when he found it, he threw our bag on the ground. Annoyed, I dug through the bag for the camera and I could see him kneeling out of the corner of my eye. I almost told him to stand up for the picture, but as I looked up he was holding my ring. He said, "Christine, you are my best friend and I’ve wanted to ask you for a long time - will you be my wife?" I was so totally dumbfounded that I just stared at him until I realized I needed to answer. I nodded because I still couldn't speak and hugged him until I remembered the ring and let him put it on and I finally managed a "Yes"
