Our Story

Five years, four states, two rivers & one dog

We met at an East Village bar called The Belfry in April 2019. Norah was having a glass of rosé at the bar with her college roommate (now bridesmaid) Monica and Christian was hanging out with his then roommate/childhood friend (now groomsman) Colton. Christian was coming from a Sharon van Etten concert (feat. another, far more famous Norah, last name Jones) and Norah was coming from a movie about Emily Dickinson (the fun one with Molly Shannon), although it turns out that Christian had read much more Dickinson than Norah had. Since the ladies were sitting the whole time, Christian at one point said “What are you guys super tall?” only to find that Norah was indeed 5’2”. Evidently, not a deal breaker. Pickle back shots were had, jokes were told, and they were smitten. After admiring each other from afar on social media for a few weeks, we finally had our first date at a cute bar called Pet Shop in Jersey City where Christian was living at the time. We quickly scheduled a second date for just nine days later, dinner at an Italian place in Norah’s neighborhood, Crown Heights Brooklyn. The next months flew by, as we took turns crossing two rivers to hang out, meeting one another’s friends and family. Then came a global pandemic. We left NYC for a “week in Massachusetts” and ended up staying with Norah’s parents for four months. Amazingly, after that we were excited to move in together. In April 2021, we moved into the cutest, quirkiest apartment on the Upper West Side, though we wouldn’t stay long. By January 2022, we were loading up a UHaul and driving north to Portland, Maine for Norah’s first job in TV news. We had wonderful help from family on both sides of the trip, but that was the longest day ever. Norah is still amazed that Christian was able to drive a moving truck through NYC. Next thing we knew, our little family grew by one, in the form of a small dog with a huge personality, Seymour Buddy! Finally, the moment you’re probably waiting for. Christian popped the question. After months of hiding the ring just out of Norah’s reach (literally) it was finally time for him to execute his plan. We were on a trip to upstate New York where he planned to propose at one of our favorite places, Storm King, a sprawling sculpture park. As with any real love story … it poured. Both of us were determined to make the most of it though (especially Christian, for obvious reasons) but as the morning drew on, it got hairy. Christian was still waiting for his brother Josh who was going to hide and take photos, so he kept dragging it out. Finally, under the cover of a huge steel sculpture, Christian asked Norah to marry him. Norah obviously said yes! By the time we met up with our families for a surprise toast at our favorite vineyard, the skies had cleared and we were already planning this wedding. Cheers to everything that lies ahead. Thank you for being part of our story!
