The Wedding Website of Chris Baluyut and Risa Ando
We had our beautiful wedding in May 2025 with beloved friends and family in NYC - Chris's hometown and where now we reside together. This year, almost a year after that beautiful day, we would like to celebrate our marriage in Japan - Risa's home country and the country where we met and started building our relationship. We will be visiting Ise Jingu, the most venerable sanctuary in Japan, and also a very special place for Risa and her family, to have a prayer for a good fortune into our marriage.

Meet at Iseshi Station

10:00 am

The first shrine visit is optional, but for those who wish to join us at Geku, please meet us at Iseshi Station - we will be waiting in front of the ticketed gate on the Geku side. Then we will proceed the pathway to the shrine together (about 5 min. walk) which starts right in front of the station.

Geku Visit (optional)

10:30 am

Toyouke Daijingu (Ise Jingu Geku, Outer Sanctuary) 伊勢神宮 外宮
Ise, Mie 516-0042, Japan

Please note that the shrine ground is graveled, and heels are not recommended for this reason.

We will visit this smaller Geku "outer sanctuary" before visiting the main Naiku "inner sanctuary" following the tradition. This is optional for all the guests. After we have a prayer here, we will then move to Naiku. These two shrines are about 15 minutes drive apart, and easily accessible via taxi or bus.

Meet at the gate of Naiku

12:00 pm

Kotai Jingu (Ise Jingu Naiku, Inner Sanctuary)
1 Ujitachi-cho, Ise, Mie 516-0023, Japan

This is the main part of the day, and all the guests are encouraged to join us from this part. We will meet in front of the gate of Naiku, and we will proceed to the pathway to the shrine Oharai-machi to have lunch before the main event of the day!

Lunch

12:30 pm

We will have a light meal at this historic pathway to the shrine Oharai-machi (おはらい町) leading to Naiku, before proceeding to our main ceremonial event of the day. Please be advised that no alcohol should be consumed before the visit to the shrine.

Naiku Visit

2:00 pm

Kotai Jingu (Ise Jingu Naiku, Inner Sanctuary) 伊勢神宮 内宮
1 Ujitachicho, Ise, Mie 516-0023, Japan

This event requires a "reifuku" Japanese formal attire. Please be advised that if your attire does not meet the appropriateness that the shrine requires, your entry to the ritual event might be denied. Heels are not recommended for the graveled ground. Please see the FAQ page for more dress code tips!

We will first visit Kaguraden (神楽殿) where we will have ceremonial music and dance performed for our prayers (this could take up to 90 minutes, including the waiting time). After that, we will visit the Main Sanctuary (Shougu 正宮) to pray.

Take a break and explore!

3:30 pm

This is a great opportunity for all the guests to explore the Oharai-machi street and Okage Yokocho, a town that developed in front of Naiku of Ise Jingu. They have great street food and lots of shops to explore - we highly recommend trying some Akafuku (Ise's famous mochi pastry with red bean paste on top). Please note that most of the stores here will close around 5pm.

Dinner

6:00 pm

This local cuisine is a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency and Ise Jingu Shrine, and they serve excellent local seafood. Conveniently located in front of Ujiyamada Station where you can take Kintetsu Railway. It is about 20 min drive from Naiku.
