We met at a poker tournament that was being hosted at the home of a mutual friend. We both arrived early to help set up. He had brought a folding table and chairs to lend to the host and I offered to help bring them in. We started talking and, by the end of the evening, we had added each other on Facebook so that we could keep chatting.
While I am not a huge fan of horror movies, I do really enjoy Stephen King. The remake of IT was coming out and I wanted to see it, but I didn't want to go alone. I had posted on my Facebook to see if anyone would be willing to go with me and Len and two other friends had messaged me to say they were interested. I set things up, but as we reached the day of the movie, the other two people had to cancel. Len and I met for dinner beforehand and joked about our accidental date (or "acci-date" as we started to call it). We had a great time during both the dinner and the movie and Len didn't seem to mind me grabbing his arm at every jump-scare. He ended up driving me home and when he asked if I wanted to go out again sometime, I was so nervous and flustered that I said, "maybe." Len didn't let that phase him and he ended up calling me that weekend to ask if I wanted to see Avenue Q together as an actual, and not accidental, date.
As a not-so-random random adventure, we had gone out to lunch and then for a Saturday walk at the Crane Estate at Castle Hill. Len proposed at the top of the hill overlooking the ocean. Thankfully, he had picked a great weekend for it, since the very next weekend started the COVID-19 lockdown in MA. We know that 2020 has been a tough year for everyone, but we are excited and hopeful for what the future will bring. We are so happy to be celebrating this next chapter of our lives with all of you!
