About Quito

The Wedding Website of Chris Haig and Gabi Ibañez
Here you can find some recommendations for our out-of-towner guests. You will find the accomodation place we suggest you to stay, which is near by the ceremony. There are some suggestions you could do in the city on your free time. Ecuadorian food is delicious, you can trust anywhere to eat in the city.

Flight

Aeropuerto Internacional de Quito

This is the main airport to arrive in Quito. It is about 20 minutes away from the the lodge we suggest for you below.

Shuttle

Shuttle from airport to the Lodge

August 7, 2018 1:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The lodge can provide shuttle from the airport to their place. It will cost USD$15 during the day and USD$20 at night. This price is per ride -meaning you could share with more people (4 people per car). This is something that the lodge will arrange, because if you take a ride from the airport the standar price will be USD$30. Please let us know the time you arrive, so we can book the shuttle to the lodge.

Travel Note

Watch Out for Altitude Sickness

Quito is 2,850 metres (9,350 ft) above sea level. The air is just thinner and dryer. - Before your trip to Quito, and while you are here, drinking plenty of water is the number one way to help your body adjust easily to our higher altitude. - It is recommended that you go easy on the alcohol in this city, as its effects will feel stronger here. - When you arrive to the city don't make fast movements (like walk fast or run) you will feel dizzy. Your body will naturally feel slower at high altitude, so go along with it.

Hostería San Jose de Puembo

This is the lodge we suggest our overseas guests to stay. It is close to the airport and near by the wedding reception. As we are a big group we found a good deal in this lodge. Accomodation will be USD$37 per night per person (breakfast included and we can use all facilities). For couples will be $50. There are limited apartments, this means we have to share rooms. Most couples will be able to have their own apartments, it depends on how many people we are :) Please contact us for reservations.

Weather and what to wear

Even though it might be sunny and we have clear days, it is still the highlands! So, bring a jacket and warm clothes for the day and warmer for the night. If you are joining us to the buddymoon, bring your trekking shoes! Daytime maximum temperatures average around a cool 21°C (70°F), whilst at night 2°C (36°F) is normal. Wearing a wool cup is very helpful to avoid altitude sickness! For the Amazon trip you'll need some cool clothes. Don't forget your bathing suit!

Museo de Guayasamin

The Mans Chapel is one of the most important works of art in South America. It is a tribute to humankind, dedicated to the hope for a better future for the poor and indigenous peoples that have experienced violence in the past. It is highly recommended that you get a guided tour to gain a deeper understanding of the masterpiece.

Train

Take Pichincha Teleférico

Far above the city looms the dormant volcano Pichincha. The view from the top on a clear day is perhaps the top sight to see in Quito, and the Teleférico tram or sky rail is the best way to get there. Open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., to a lookout area with spectacular views. For those who want to climb to the Rucu peak of Pichincha, at 4,696 meters, there are hiking trails that lead from the top of Teleférico. Just make sure it’s a clear day. Rate: $8.50.

Travel Note

Walk in Parque Metropolitano

This park is the lungs of the city, and is a great place to come for some fresh air, beautiful trees, and views of the valley. Metropolitano is a huge park that is perfect for a day out if you just want to escape the bustle of city life and enjoy the best of nature.
