On the first stop of the Buddymoon we thought it would be fun to visit the Amazon Forest! There are rafting activities and walks through the jungle. Bring your trekking shoes and some light clothes for the warm and humid weather. On our way to the jungle, we'll stop to chill at the Papallacta hotsprings.
Today we leave the jungle and head up to the mountains. We'll visit the "Paílón Del Diablo", or in English “Cauldron of the Devil”. The Pailon Del Diablo is about 80 meters high and it’s one of the most spectacular waterfalls to visit in Banos and in Ecuador.
We´ll head to Quilota crater. Quilotoa is a 3-kilometre (2 mi)-wide caldera that was formed by the collapse of this dacite volcano following a catastrophic eruption about 800 years ago. We'll do some trekking activities or go to visit the surroundings.
We'll be taking the train southwards to the “Avenue of the Volcanoes”. The road descends through the “jungles of Panzaleo” whence wood for building the churches of Quito came from, through grasslands, croplands and haciendas. We’ll enjoy the cuisine and culture of the chagras, the Ecuadorian cowboys. In El Boliche, at the foothills of Cotopaxi, we discover its singular flora and fauna in an easy trek, then return to Machachi for lunch and a visit to “Granja La Estación”, a beautifully kept farm home of native and exotic animals.
We'll be back in Quito around 6pm on Friday and booking accommodation for that night. Sadly this trip stops here. Thanks for sharing with us this amazing journey! We'll miss you and thank you so much for coming! For those who will continue on, please arrange your own accommodation for Saturday night and thereafter.
