There are tons and tons of hiking around. All Trails APP also has great recommendations and maps so you don't get lost, I would save the hike you choose so you can look at the map and make sure you go on the correct trail! Here are some of our favorites: 1. Angels Rest: Moderate to Hard 4.8 miles total. Great views above of the gorge, while going through lush forest to get to the top. 2. Wahclella Falls: Easy 1.9 miles. Will break a small sweat, but easy with all ability levels. Amazing up close waterfall view at the end. One of our fav waterfall hikes. 3. Dog Mountain: Hard 6.3 miles. Absolutely stunning hike on the Washington side. However this in our opinion is a hard one. Get a good variety of sights, and sometimes get beautiful flower blooms in the right season.
YOU MUST RESERVE A SPOT to go see it, but it is on your way to Hood River, and on your way back to Portland. The most famous waterfall. This is great for all ability levels. You can simply just walk up to it, or hike a little more if you desire. Very touristy for a reason. How to reserve a spot: Booking windows are 2 weeks in advance so people have to wait til July 29 or 30 for example if they want to go on Aug 12 or 13 respectively. if you want to go 15 or 16, you will wait til Aug 1st or 2nd. The tickets are available by time slots. The website to apply is rec.gov provided below, just click view.
The most famous brewery from Hood River, get the beer flight ; )
Our FAVORITE spot in Hood River. We will go here for a welcome party!
Great views of Mount Hood on a clear day. Taste wine, or cider, and get a bite to eat. This winery is a lot more casual than Stave and Stone.
Amazing view of Mount Adams on a clear day. Great little apps and awesome wine. What else could you want? A little more fancier ambiance than Grateful Vineyard.
Looking to see Mt. Hood up close, but don't want to do much work? Timberline Lodge is a great place to get a bite to eat and a drink or two while looking at the peak of a volcano. They also have hiking trails off of the lodge, and mountain biking options as well.
Downtown Hood River is super fun. You can spend a day just exploring cute shops, eating good food, tasting local beers/wine, and looking at local art. Click around on their city website for all Hood River has to offer.
World famous fly fishing destination. Also great hiking, biking, camping and white water rafting. Chris and I spend many summer weekends on this river.
Love to bike? Check out the Historic Columbia River Highway by bike. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Columbia River Gorge from the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail. The trail comprises three disconnected paved paths along stretches of historic Highway 30 — which predated I-84 as the only road connecting Portland and The Dalles. Together the segments provide a combined 12-plus miles of thrilling scenery and spectacular geologic formations. Need to rent a bike?
