Cheryl and Cory met the old fashioned way, online. Cheryl: I was intrigued by Cory's profile headline which read "Detroit Made. Likes Art. Enjoys Tacos". My first thought was "Who isn't always game for Tacos?". But as I scrolled through photos, the more I could tell this was a genuinely fun dude. After the typical internet stalking, Cory sent the first message. Cory: Cheryl's profile was fun, she seemed like the person I wanted to get to know. I played it cool and sent a short message to start things off. To my surprise and excitement, she answered back. Cheryl: A few weeks of texting go by and we decide to meet up for a drink at Guthries in Wrigley. There we played many rounds of Connect 4 while talking and laughing about anything and everything for hours. This night started the first of many dates! Cory: After that first date I was ready to shut my dating life down and jump in both feet first. She kicked my ass in Connect4, I only won if I was able to distract her with a story or hilarious joke.
The Proposal. Cory had just picked me up from the airport after a week long work trip. I was tired and ready to relax! After we got home, I noticed that Cory was acting superrrrr weird. He denied my accusations so I moved on. Given that it was just days before Christmas, Cory suggested that we open one gift from each other before the holiday. I agreed. Little did i know that this man was about to put a rock on it. Cory's "gift" was a scavenger hunt. He handed me a clue that led me to another place in the house, and there waiting for me was a wooden puzzle piece. The cycle repeated itself a number of times: find a clue, find a puzzle piece, clue, puzzle piece, etc. After some time, I realized that this was a hand made puzzle. As I put the pieces together I noticed that one side had a painting on it, while the other had words. Cory asked that I read the words aloud from the back of the puzzle. Guys....I could. not. read. it. I immediately started crying at the kind words and sweet gesture. (At this point, I still did not suspect anything because if you know Cory, being thoughtful and artsy is kind of his shtick) He ended up reading the words aloud which described our time together. At the end, we hugged and I said "Well, shit. How am I supposed to top that?". To which Cory responded by dropping to a knee and proposing. So, here we are, doing the thing. We are very excited to celebrate with all of you!
