How we met

08.20.20

Wendy and Chris connected on Bumble. According to Chris, Wendy was his only swipe of the day, because apparently after seeing Wendy, he “no longer felt the need to continue swiping.” He hoped that Wendy would feel the same, and he waited anxiously to see if she would reach out. His wish would come true as Wendy messaged him the very next day. Wendy did not think their conversation would go anywhere because Chris would take a while to message back. As per Chris, he reports that he was not always on the app and would only check it once a day. Eventually they exchanged numbers and set up their first date. Wendy and Chris connected during the pandemic when everything was closed, and one of their few options for a date was a picnic at the Penn Treaty Park in Fishtown, or at least that was the plan. Chris and Wendy never made it to the park that day. Chris met Wendy at her place and the two planned to walk to the park together. As they were waiting at the corner traffic light and Chris was explaining his arm tattoo, Wendy turned around after hearing grunting noises from someone behind her. She met eyes with a man that appeared disoriented and aggressive. The man suddenly got up from his seated position and lunged at Wendy. Immediately, Chris jumped in front of her (or Wendy jumped behind him, it depends who is telling this story) and hit a beautiful blast-double-leg takedown to end up on top of the strange guy in the in the middle of Susquehanna Avenue. While Chris was fighting this random person in the street, he turned to Wendy to tell her to call the police. In turn, the man took the opportunity to bite Chris on his stomach. Needless to say, after Chris finished the fight, he and Wendy spent their first date at an urgent care. During their 3 hours at urgent care, Wendy learned that Chris has more interests than only fighting people in the middle of the street. He is also very smart and loves American history. Chris educated Wendy on the significance and history of the Penn Treaty Park. He appeared to be a very serious person but whenever Wendy could get a smile out of him, it was the best feeling. Even though Chris just went through something semi-traumatic he made the most of the date and was very attentive towards Wendy. Wendy appreciated Chris asking the nurse if Wendy could go to examination room with him because he didn’t want her to sit in the waiting room alone. After urgent care, Wendy invited Chris to her balcony for a drink so the two could finally get a glimpse of a real date. Wendy decided that they have to go out again so that she can treat him to dinner after he saved her life. Chris didn’t hesitate and the rest is history. Looking back now, and knowing that Chris is a germaphobe, it astonishes Wendy that Chris didn’t freak out and end the date after being bitten by the guy. Also looking back now and knowing how much Chris hates the heat, Wendy has the assumption that if the attack hadn’t happened, they wouldn’t have gone past a first date as Chris would have become irritated of sitting in the park in the August heat. Wendy believes the central air of the urgent care brought the sparks.
