This famous California Mission is located just around the corner from the venue. Although they are closed for a private event the day of the wedding, the Mission is a great place to spend a few hours learning about the history of San Juan Capistrano. General Admission Tickets are $10.
This fun harbor is close to the venue. There are plenty of shops to explore and luxury boats to admire. There are daily whale watching boats and you can often find deals on Groupon.
Also a fun harbor with shops and restaurants to enjoy. Be sure to stop at Dominic’s for some pizza or eggplant parmesan. Bonus points for those who can find the F/V Sea Star. This boat is owned by Kevin’s godfather, Captain Joe.
Try catching a late season baseball game at one of the nation’s best stadiums! As much as Kevin loves the Padres and wishes he could promise a Padres’ win, that’s nearly impossible. Please don't go to a Dodger's game. Stephanie may take you off the guest list.
Get ready to park, pay, and walk (but it's so worth it!). Laguna Beach is an artsy beach town which attracts locals and tourists alike. There's an amazing National Geographic photo gallery and a cat cafe (if you're into that sort of thing). Finding a parking spot can be difficult, but the gelato is worth the walk (Terri, this is specifically directed at you!). Recommended Flavors: -Pistachio -Hazelnut -Dark Chocolate -Cookies & Cream -Lemon -Raspberry
If you enjoy wine, consider choosing a few wineries in Temecula to go wine tasting. Kevin worked at Leoness Cellars after graduating from UCSD, but there are dozens to choose from. In addition to Leoness, consider these: Miramonte, Doffo, Briar Rose (by appointment only), and Masia De La Vinya — be sure to say hello to Seabren or Oliver at Masia! If you go to Leoness, have a glass of Melange d'Ete (Stephanie's favorite white) or Syrah (Kevin's favorite red).
If you are looking to extend your trip by a few days, Palm Springs is a great desert town filled with art, food, eclectic hotels, and usually favorable weather. Kevin and Stephanie highly recommend the Tommy Bahama restaurant! Did you know Palm Springs was a getaway town for dozens of celebrities several decades ago? Some of the streets in the area are now named after them!
If you want an unforgettable experience, take the tram along California’s steepest slope to the top of Mount San Jacinto. The views are fantastic. There is also a restaurant at the top. Be sure to bring a jacket because the temperature change from the desert floor can be drastic!
For those fans of Mickey and friends, you’re in luck! Although a very expensive day, Disneyland can be a great place to feel like a kid again! Pro Tip: Don’t try to do the entire park in a single day. Pick your favorite rides and make a game plan.
San Diego has plenty of fine restaurants, but focus your time around the Gaslamp Quarter if you want to combine shopping and eating.
Park your car in downtown La Jolla and walk down to the beach for a look at the famous Sea Lions. You’re likely to find people snorkeling and kayaking. If you’d like to join, find the local dive shop and try renting some gear.
Bring your hiking shoes and a bottle of water, this hike is filled with adventure and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean. If you’d rather stay closer to sea level, consider walking along the beach and finding the local tide pools.
One of Orange County’s best hikes is at your front door. Drive up the coast and hike the Crystal Cove Trail at Crystal Cove State Park. Be sure to bring your water!
Take a drive along the Pacific Coast Highway and enjoy the views of the Pacific Ocean.
