How We Met

New England Love

Jhonathan & Chaslyn met in Newport, RI while Jhonny was in training at Naval Justice School at Naval Station Newport and Chaslyn was working there as a research associate for the base humanitarian response program! Their paths happened to cross in the short few months Jhonny would be there training. Their first date was on September 21st, 2018! It started with drinks at the Officers' Club on base (where you all will be attending their wedding) and then continued on to the Red Parrot for dinner at the Wharf. After that, they were truly inseparable! Jhonathan soon had to return to Camp Pendleton, CA, while Chaslyn graduated that following spring from the University of Rhode Island. They kept in touch via facetime and through visiting one another. Shortly after graduation in May 2019, Chaslyn moved to CA for "the summer" and (obviously) never left! The rest is history! Chaslyn called almost everyone she knew after their first date and, as cliche as possible, told everyone she had "met the one" and well, she was right! The couple looks forward to celebrating their union with you all in the very place where it all began!

The Proposal

California Dreamin

Jhonathan went on his first long deployment at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic from June 2020 - to September 2020. Jhonathan and Chaslyn had been together in CA for about a year and a half when it was time to say, "goodbye for now." Chaslyn was finishing up her first year of law school and spending her days with the couple's new corgi puppy, Doug, while Jhonathan was serving the United States Marine Corps in Palau as the deployment's Executive Officer! After many months of missing each other and lots of emails and phone calls, Jhonathan returned home and had big plans for the two. Before a planned romantic "welcome home" dinner at the Chart House in Del Mar, CA, Jhonathan told Chaslyn he wanted to watch the sunset from Torrey Pines State Park. As Chaslyn (not so gracefully) stumbled down the dirt path in her heels, Jhonathan took out a blindfold covered her eyes, and took her hand. Lots of giggling anticipation led to the moments you see here in these photos. The most perfect proposal as the sun began to set on the California coast. Some of the loving things Jhonathan said, "The only thing more beautiful than a sunset on the California coast is you, will you marry me?" Spoiler alert, she said YES!
