Going to the Oregon Coast is one of those cliches that never goes out of style. Here in Independence, you are only 45 minutes from the Coast. Take advantage of it!
Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge
This is one of my favorite places of all time. I go here to think, pray, hike, picnic, you name it! Plus it is only 10 minutes away. The short walk up to the view point is phenomenal.

Yeasty Beasty
Pizza, beer, fun! Great pizza with all fresh ingredients, amazing local beer, and super friendly staff. We both work here so stop in and say hi to our coworker friends! Also, this is a kid friendly tap restaurant, so bring the little ones and let them color or do a puzzle.
Independence Cinema
The only movie theater until you hit Salem or Corvallis, but it's got all the newest big hits. Support our small town!
Independence Riverview Park
The Independence water front is a great park with a little of everything and awesome views of the Willamette River. It's a good place to chill and have lunch at!
Salem
The historic capital of Oregon. There is plenty to do in the downtown area including the mall, bookstores, seeing the capitol building, the waterfront park and carousel, craft breweries, and antiquing.
Portland
It's weird, but that's what makes it Portland. This is where Charlie grew up and there is a ton worth seeing!
Eola Hills Wine Cellars
There are so many wineries in this area! Eola Hills is one of the most famous. If you like wine, well welcome to the heart of wine country. Crush Wine Bar on Main st Monmouth also offers limo wine tours of the area for a reasonable price and is also a great low key wine bar.
The Tap Station
Great local bar with a fantastic view of the Willamette River and outside seating. This is only 5 minutes tops from the wedding venue and locally owned by a great couple. COVID hit them hard, so if you are looking for a great bar with awesome brews and views you should stop in!
