Lunar New Year (called Tết in Vietnamese) is the first new moon of a lunisolar calendar year. The event is celebrated by millions of people all over the world, including Sarah's family. It celebrates the arrival of spring for Vietnam and other countries which use lunisolar calendars. Celebrations can last from a day up to an entire week. Because the date is based on the cycles of the moon, it varies each year, usually landing in January or February. The Vietnamese zodiac is the traditional classification scheme based on the lunar calendar that assigns an animal to each year in a repeating 12-year cycle. 2024 will be the Year of the Dragon.
