On a three-week camping road trip, with our four-month-old in tow, we found ourselves in the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite National Park. Tucked among the mountains was a stunning turquoise lake with a beautiful beach, so perfect Charlene insisted we stay for a picnic. We laid out a blanket and soaked in the moment. At one point, Justin slipped away, saying he was grabbing towels so we could take a dip. When he came back, he had somehow enlisted a pediatric nurse and her teenage daughter to watch Andrew so we could walk down to the water together. Charlene protested immediately, the water was freezing and she had no intention of getting in. Justin suddenly pointed across the lake, and said, “Look at that deer!” When Charlene turned back, he was down on one knee. “Charlene Solomon, will you marry me?” Caught off guard and overflowing with joy, Charlene wrapped Justin in a hug, marveling at the ring and nearly forgetting the most important part, answering the question! But of course, the answer was YES. And as if the moment needed any more magic, the beach around us broke into applause.
