We met at at party in college all the way back in February 2014. We spent the next few months dating casually, knowing the relationship might not last since Michael was graduating and planning to apply to medical school. We said goodbye at the end of spring term unsure if or when we would see each other again. A couple weeks later Michael texted Emily that he was coming to New Haven for a weekend and wanted to spend it with her. After that weekend we knew we wanted to be together. This was the first of many weekend trips over the next few years that kept our relationship strong despite the distance. Over the next few years Emily finished college then moved to Boston to work in finance, while Michael worked as a researcher in New Haven and Boston and eventually started medical school in Memphis. We logged a lot of miles on planes, trains, buses, and highways to see each other as much as possible. Despite the distance we made so many memories together and continued to grow closer, eagerly anticipating a time where we wouldn't have to say any more goodbyes - after Michael finished school in June 2020. In March 2020 Emily flew down to Memphis to stay with Michael during her two weeks of work from home - and never left! Going from a long distance relationship to quarantining together for months was an unexpectedly abrupt change but showed us our relationship could withstand any obstacles and that we always wanted to be together. In May 2020 we moved to NYC for Michael to start his residency and Emily to be closer to friends and family. We've loved watching New York come back to life over the past 3 years and have made the city our home. We added our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Cassie to the family in April 2021 as well. She is the sweetest, friendliest, most cuddly dog we could ask for and we are so lucky to have her. In June 2022 Michael proposed to Emily in front of close friends, family, and Cassie on the beach at sunset on Cape Cod. We decided to get married in Newport because our love story began and flourished in New England, we love summertime on the water, and Newport is the quintessential New England coastal town. We are so excited to celebrate our marriage with all of our family and friends, and we are so grateful for everyone's love and support!
