We met in a romantic comedy set at a summer day camp on a beautiful small island off the coast of Maine...or at least that's how it feels (it was basically Wet Hot American Summer...with just slightly more responsibility). It was 2013: Casey's first summer at Camp Beech Cliff, working as a group counselor, and Finn's 1 millionth, returning as the sailing instructor. As the story goes, Casey brought her group down to boating and the activity of the day was kayaking. Finn offered to get her a kayak (we're talking about the tiny, plastic, very light lake kayaks) and proceeded to dramatically pick it up and lift it over his head giving a little exhale. Being the sarcasm queen she is, Casey commented "Ooo muscle man." Somehow Finn interpreted that as flirting. Then the following Friday was pirates vs ninjas day (obviously) and they both dressed as ninjas....and here we are, approaching 9 years later.

Unbeknownst to Casey, just before her college graduation, Finn asked for Candy's blessing as he was madly in love. A few months later, nearing Casey's birthday, Finn surprised her with what she figured was a birthday outing. He told her to get dressed up and then blindfolded her as she got in the car. On their way, he took as many tricky turns as he could, testing her knowledge of the Island roads. They ended up at one of the marinas where Finn's friend was waiting with a Hinckley (a very fancy boat) to take them out to a restaurant on a nearby Island. Unplanned, they ended up sitting next to Finn's old school superintendent, Rob, who had come over on his own boat. Somewhere during the dinner (this is the magical part because Casey never got up), Finn asked if he could use Rob's boat for the proposal. At the end of dinner, Finn asked if they could go check out his boat (this wasn't suspicious because Finn always wants to look at boats). On the upper deck, as they were looking out at sea, Finn got down on one knee and asked if Casey would be so kind as to marry him. Unfortunately, since he was so excited about their love, he blubbered through most of the speech. Luckily, Casey felt the same way and agreed, stipulating that they needed some time to adventure together first. Fast forward to two years later... Casey felt a little robbed of her romantic, fairytale speech since Finn had cried through most of it. They were now at a point where they decided to design a ring together to replace Candy's generous loan of her own engagement ring (very sentimental). After crafting the world's most beautiful ring, Finn kept it in preparation for a second proposal. Somewhat less shocking this time, after a lovely ride up Mount Diablo in CA, Finn found a private pull off and once again asked if Casey would do him the honor of spending the rest of her life with him. This time Finn was better collected and delivered a speech worthy of an Oscar. Thankfully, Casey said yes again.
