We are not able to provide transportation for all guests between our church and reception venue. It is a quick drive (~8 min) between the two. Parking is available at the church through the entrance at 48 Meeting Street and there may also be parking available along Church Street! Please avoid parking directly in front of the sanctuary! At the Gadsden house, there is parking immediately behind the venue on Alexander Street or in the Gaillard parking garage across the street from the venue on Alexander Street. Carpooling via Uber is a great option, especially if you plan to drink at the reception. We recommended scheduling Ubers in advance for the ceremony if you are in Mt. Pleasant or on one of the islands, as sometimes driver times are a bit longer on this side of the bridge. Note that church services and classes begin early Sunday morning. Please do not leave your car on the church campus overnight and into the morning.
Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church is Julia’s family church where she was baptized and raised! In August 2023, a pipe burst causing extensive damage to the sanctuary and repairs are still underway as of April 2024. Given the construction timeline, the decision was made to relocate to First Baptist Church, a beautiful and historic church that is also where Julia’s cousin was married and where her parents first attended church when they moved to Charleston.
Formal attire for the ceremony & reception please! Men should wear a dark suit and tie. For women, dresses ankle to mid-length are preferred. Colors and/or florals are encouraged (but not required). The venue is indoor/outdoor with stairs between levels of the house, so stilettos may not be suitable. For the welcome party, men should wear a jacket with an optional tie - khaki pants are perfect! Women should wear mid- to mini-length dresses. Blues in your outfit or accessories are encouraged (but not required). Weather permitting, this event will be outside in a grassy area. Please refer to examples using the link below! Our hope is that everyone feels formal and festive, but still comfortable! https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/17PsILOGy092u2AQaKsXKrntqEzJ27n4FzFYujCtob2U/edit?usp=sharing
Your formal invitation will specify those included in your party, including plus ones or children if applicable. Thank you for understanding!
Towards the end of April, the temperature in Charleston should stay around high-60s to mid-70s. We don't expect that warm outer wear will be necessary. If you are more cold-natured, a light sweater would be good! As it will be Spring in Charleston, rain is always possible. Our ceremony will be inside. Our reception venue is indoor/outdoor with two large porch levels. There will also be a tent covering the dance floor area and additional tenting depending on the forecast.
Outside of Chris' family and friends, we know you were wondering! In all seriousness...it's Greek so think of the word 'metropolis'. Vla-hop-o-lus! Vla (like the 'vl' in vlog) Hop (like a frog) o (extra hidden syllable) Lus (like 'less' with a u instead of e)
